Kalmar Triathlon Gears Up to Ironman
It’s been confirmed – one of the world’s toughest triathlon competitions, Ironman, will be arranged in Kalmar on 18 August next year. The competition will serve as a qualifier for the World Championships, which will be held in Hawaii.

The last agreement between the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), Destination Kalmar and the local organiser Kalmar Triathlon was signed a couple days ago, making Kalmar the host of Scandinavia’s first full-distance Ironman competition!

Facts about triathlons and Ironman
A triathlon consists of swimming, cycling and running back-to-back over different distances. To be called Ironman, a competition must be sanctioned by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), a private company that owns the rights to the name ‘Ironman’.
Every year, 24 Ironman competitions are arranged around the world. The best known is the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii. Eight Ironman competitions are arranged in Europe: in Nice, Zürich, Lanzarote, Bolton, Pembrokeshire, Frankfurt, Regensburg and Klagenfurt. Ironman Kalmar will be Scandinavia’s first full distance Ironman.
