Shopping in Kalmar

Kalmar offers everything from well-known chains to small, cosy shops. Stroll around in Kvarnholmen – the beautiful centre of Kalmar where you can hear the echoes of history, or take a trip to one of the city’s shopping malls.

Kvarnholmen, Kalmar's charming centre, has one the Europa Nostra prize twice for it well-preserved urban setting. Here you’ll find a wide range of shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants. And all of this is in the centre of town, within easy walking distance. And in the same area, right near the guest harbour, you’ll also find the Baronen shopping centre, with about 30 stores, and currently undergoing an expansion.

Malls and shopping centres in Kalmar

Kalmar has gained a reputation as a great place to shop. In recent years, many well-known chains have chosen to open stores in Kalmar, and more are planning to do so. This trend began with Ikea, which opened its store in Kalmar in the summer of 2006. Hansa City was built close to Ikea, and between Kvarnholmen and Hansa City, you’ll find the Giraffen mall, where many of the leading chains are represented.
