Address: Stadsparken, S-392 33 Kalmar
In the centre of Kalmar you will find one of Sweden's most renowned art museums. This is an extremely contemporary art museum, aimed at stimulating discussion of issues that affect the future of humanity and the challenges facing the region.
The exhibitions alternate between the most local, often from parts of the collections, and the rich treasure contained by Designarkivet (the Swedish Design Archive). At the same time, contemporary art is regularly presented from both Sweden and the countries and cultures with which the Kalmar area has had contact over the centuries – both in war and peace.
The museum’s profile has attracted a great deal of attention and it is counted as one of the most interesting Swedish art institutions. The museum aims to be a meeting place for reflection, discussion and new impressions, to act as a voice in the public debate and to constitute a cultural engine in the Kalmar region. For this reason, it also carries out extensive educational activities for children and young people. A guided tour is included in the entrance fee every day during the summer season, and every Sunday during the rest of the year. Kalmar Konstmuseum also organises events such as artists in conversation, lectures and seminars linked to the exhibitions. And on Fridays entry is always free.
