A 19th century, middle-class home in the old town, only 200 meters from the castle. With its furnishings intact, the house is a museum open for groups. The fine garden is ideal for picnics or strolls.
The first thing a visitor will see when approaching the Krusenstiernska Garden is a high fence. This particular fence is fundamental for the entire complex since gardens like this one were originally meant to be a retreat – secluded from the rest of the buildings. By the turn of the century similar fences surrounded all other big gardens in the area. The design follows an ancient tradition – already in pictures from the Middle Ages one can find such sheltered gardens.
In this lovely miniature park you can enjoy a cup of coffee, some cake from the menu or you can bring your own picnic-basket. The spacious garden behind the red fence is full of old walnut and fruit trees, berries and flowers. In front of the old washhouse stretches a herb garden with numerous spices and aromatic plants. Shells line the walkways; cast iron furniture decorates the garden. Wandering around the complex you will encounter a pavilion - a background scenery set of a walkway.
To walk through the gate of the Krusenstiernska Garden is to take a step back in time. The main building, kept intact since the 19th century, with furnishings from different periods and countries, brings to light the lifestyle of a typical middle-class home. The hereditary estate and its possessions have been collected over several generations. Most of the furniture is in Gustavian style, but there is some in Baroque and Rococo styles. The Krusenstiernska House is also famous for its beautiful East Indian porcelain.
